Yoga for the Agesworkshop with Drew Perry

Learn how to continually re-create your yoga practice with your changing needs and abilities.  Poses can and should be adapted as your abilities and expectations change with age.  While props can help, you can also break down poses into their key elements to work in different ways in order to keep your practice relevant.

Lisa Towson Weekend WorkshopFebruary 21, 22, 23, 2020

We are incredibly fortunate to welcome Lisa Towson for a weekend workshop at Yoga North.  The Friday and Saturday segment will open to all levels and the Sunday segment will be open to those practicing headstand.  You can attend a portion of the workshop or the entire 3 days.

A special Teacher Training segment has been included for Saturday & Sunday afternoon.  See below for details.

Happy Healthy Kneesworkshop series with Regan Tataryn

In this workshop series, you will learn how to take care of common knee issues and learn poses and practices to help improve range of motion and alignment.  We will begin with practices that build mobility, stability, strength and alignment. You will also learn how to modify commonly practiced poses within the context of a regular class so that you can continue to support optimum knee health.

Yoga Book Clubwith Drew Perry

Here is a chance to read and discuss some important literature about the past and present of yoga with a group of other interested people – including students and non-students of Iyengar Yoga.  You can participate in one or more of the sessions, simply by signing up, buying or borrowing the book to be discussed and being prepared to share your thoughts and questions.  Text will be available to purchase at Yoga North.

Session 3

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, translation and commentary by BKS Iyengar.  This ancient text was the source of Mr. Iyengar’s yoga philosophy and his guiding light.  When asked, he would say that his type of yoga was “Patanjali Yoga”.  For the last two-thousand years, it has been studied and written about by yoga practitioners and scholars.  There is wisdom in this text that is very relevant to everyday modern life, as well as the practice of yoga.  Several key sutras will be selected from the 196 sutras (or aphorisms) for study and discussions.

Session 4

The Bhagavad-Gita – This is a classic work of Indian literature, and a favourite reference for Gandhi.  It contains memorable statements of how the yogi is to interact with the world around and maintain balance and harmony within.  Key selections will be read and discussed.
